The Project
Waitrose commissioned the refurbishment of a raised-level car park at their Crewkerne store to ensure long-term durability, safety, and continued use for customers. The existing waterproofing system had reached the end of its service life, and removal and replacement were required as part of a tightly managed works programme.
With a high-traffic retail environment and customer access to consider, speed and reliability were key. The project was specified by Ridge and Partners and installed by long-standing Flowcrete partner Cemplas, who had previously delivered successful car park refurbishments for the client.
The Solution
Flowcrete’s Deckshield Rapide EDF was selected for the full 1,750 sqm area due to its fast-curing performance and proven track record on similar projects. The PUMA-based system was installed on a prepared concrete substrate to deliver a seamless, durable waterproof layer that could withstand vehicle traffic and weather exposure.
The rapid-cure properties of Deckshield Rapide EDF allowed works to proceed on a fast-track basis, enabling the busy store to reopen the deck as quickly as possible with minimal disruption.
Notably, additional gullies were installed to improve drainage. These required a box-out to be waterproofed prior to gully installation—ensuring a fully sealed, watertight solution.
Results
The project was completed in July 2025 following a 6-week installation. Thanks to the close coordination between Cemplas, Flowcrete, and the project team, the car park was refurbished to a high standard and returned to service on schedule.
Waitrose once again benefitted from the combined expertise of Flowcrete and Cemplas, both of whom have established a reliable and trusted reputation with the client and specifier.
